The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals present a unique opportunity for innovations addressing today's complex global challenges. Yet, we are appalled by the fact that despite this global interest and the amount of resources available, poverty and inequality still exist in many parts of the developing world. Young entrepreneurs and leaders – equipped the right talent to steward technological advancement and positive change within their communities – often lack the financial resources to scale up their innovative business ideas. This is something that we try to address.
We aim to invest in people and their ideas to build an inclusive and sustainable world. We believe that one way to influence change is to plant new seeds today – to support the kinds of innovative thinkers who are purposefully working to meet the needs of the people who have been left out and are underserved in society. For example:
Over 90% of Sub-Saharan Africa’s 48 million smallholder farmers lack access to formal credit. FarmDrive, was founded by Rita and Peris, two bold young entrepreneurs who decided to use data analytics and mobile technology to completely change the game for rural farmers. Thanks to Rita and Peris, 2,000 farmers to date have been able access loans that have allowed them to expand their businesses, hire more staff, and make the investments they need to scale up and become more efficient.
In Nairobi alone, 1.4 million people live in informal housing settlements – that’s 60% of the population of Kenya’s capital and largest city! This is why Winnie Gitau co-founded a social enterprise called Kwangu-Kwako build safer, simpler, and more cost-effective homes for Kenya’s informal housing settlements. The production process also creates stronger local economies and employment opportunities, including some non-traditional career options for women.
By contributing to this campaign, you will help us support talented entrepreneurs like Rita, Peris and Winnie. You will be contributing to building economies that increase social cohesion and realize sustainable and equitable development mandates.
We are happy to say that all funds raised through this campaign will directly support our work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
